Sunset hike above Walensee
What is the best way to wrap up a work week? Jump on a train after work for a nice ride along Zurich Lake and Walensee, enjoy nature and stunning views, work your legs out with a beautiful sunset hike with a nice bunch of people!
If you’ve been meaning to try some T4 hike, this one is a great start! Relatively short, T4 on the way up and T3 on the way down, so close to the impressive Churfirsten and overlooking the turquoise Walensee.
This trip is led by a mountain leader.
What’s the plan?
Meet your guide at 18:15 at Walenstadt train station who will give you a lift to Hochrugg car park. If you travel in your own car, meet directly at Hochrugg car park at 18:45.
From there we start our hike with a visit to the famous peace monument Paxmal, built over 25 years by Karl Bickel in the interwar period. Worth the tiny detour! Then we start our T4 hike through forests and pastures, all the way to Alp Tschingla. The views from the top are breathtaking, so we can have our picnic above the lake and below the Churfirsten, while looking at the sun setting. After dinner, we can stop at the Alp for a coffee or a digestive before starting our hike in the dark through pastures along the Churfirsten, and back down to the car park.
Those traveling by public transport will then be given a lift to Walenstadt to catch the train back home.
