These climbing course series are led by Tim Dunham, climbing instructor.
Course 1 – Introduction to Outdoor Climbing 1/3 – Top Rope climbing – Ticino
Learn the fundamentals about outdoor climbing: equipment, safety & communication, hand-foot climbing techniques, understanding guidebooks, and more. You will practice in a group setting on single pitch routes to maximize learning, fun, and safety. This introduction course is perfect to begin your outdoor climbing career.
Course 2 – Introduction to Outdoor Climbing 2/3 – Lead Climbing, Belaying, and Anchors – Ibergeregg
Course 3 – Introduction to Outdoor Climbing 3/3 – Alpine Rock Climbing – Göschenertal
What’s the plan?
Meet Tim in front of the Ponte Brolla train station at 10:00 on Saturday. Shuttle to the crag. The first half of the day will be dedicated to understanding the equipment, fundamentals of outdoor climbing, and safety rules. During the second half of the day, you will be able to put theory into practice and rock climb.
At the end of the day, you will settle into a lovely hotel in Losone and enjoy the evening with a nice dinner.
After breakfast on Sunday, you will return to the crag and practice the skills learned on Saturday. After a second full day of climbing, Tim will give you a lift back to Ponte Brolla train station for you to return home.
Requirements
Some previous climbing experience is recommended (indoor climbing or bouldering). However, if you are fit and keen to try outdoor climbing but have never climbed before, we are happy for you to join us.
Insurance
It is the participant’s responsibility to get health and accident insurances that cover mountain rescue, including extreme sports. Becoming a Rega patron is highly recommended (CHF 40 per year only for emergency medical assistance from the air).
