2-day Guided Hike in UNESCO Tectonic Arena Sardona
Wonderful 2-day hike that creates a feeling of mountaineering, waking up at 4am to catch a sunrise from the top of the mountains, with the most beautiful panoramic views of all Glarus and Graubünden peaks around us. Located between the famous seven Churfirsten and the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona, the hike between Flumserberg and Spitzmeilenhütte offers a great variety of breathtaking views, geological wonders and fun ridges.
This trip is led by Celine Kahn, mountain leader.
What’s the plan?
Day 1: Flumserberg, Tannenboden – Spitzmeilenhütte
We meet at Flumserberg, Tannenboden at 09:30. The first part of the day is perfect to warm up: a gentle uphill on easy terrain all the way to the gorgeous mountain lakes Seeben, from where we can see the ridges that await us and the Churfirsten on the other side of Walensee. We then hike on the ridge all the way to the Zigerfurgglen pass at 2’000m. Once we reach the pass, a beautiful balcony trail takes us all the way to the beautiful mountain hut Spitzmeilenhütte at 2’087m, where we spend the night. The sunset from there is absolutely breathtaking!
Technical information: 15km – 1’100m ascent – 400m descent
Day 2: Spitzmeilenhütte – Spitzmeilen – Wissmeilen – Maschgenkamm
We wake up VERY early and grab a quick breakfast while everyone else is still asleep, so we can start hiking with our headlamps and reach Spitzmeilen in time for the sunrise! The early alarm is definitely worth it. From there, we continue on the ridge joining Spitzmeilen and Wissmeilen, again with a stunning 360° panorama. Once we reach Wissmeilenpass, we slowly make our way down. We stop for a coffee at Alp Fursch, a lovely hut with 1000 animals in the summer! A final ascent takes us to Maschgenkamm, where we can either take the cable car down, or hike back to Flumserberg Tannenboden.
Technical information: 10km – 700m ascent – 700m descent (or 1’300m descent without cable car)
