“It is the Journey that matters, not the Destination.”

Do you know the concept of slow travel? Slow travel is the art of getting from one place to another while opening up ourselves to the present moment. Slow travel emphasizes connection: connection to cultures, to nature, to local people, to food… Slow travelling also means human power and sustainability.

For this edition, we’ve made a selection of 4 short movies about wonderful slow travellers, whether on touring bikes, sailing boats, mountain bikes, skis or just walking…

ICE AND PALMS

A 100% self-powered bike + ski adventure.
Jochen Mesle and Max Kroneck start their biggest and most extraordinary ski tour so far. The mission: Bikepacking across the alps and skiing some iconic mountains along the way – no motor allowed! The two friends have travelled the world for many mountainous adventures, but while skiing in distant locations this idea grew in their minds: a ski expedition that starts right on their own doorsteps. Six weeks, 1.800 km,[masked] vertical meters and a dream come true.

WHY DO I WANT TO SAIL?

Maya and her husband Aladino live on Magic Carpet, a Vindo 32 sailing boat (which is actually only 28ft) that Aladino completely rebuilt following a devastating accident. They fell in love with sailing and with each other. They are now on a mission to sail around the world as slowly as possible. In this video, Maya tries to figure out why she is so attracted to sailing and how sailing brings her all she needs in life. A beautiful story told by her mesmerizing voice.
