Off-piste skills – Free ride weekend in Saas-Fee
Immerse in the ultimate adventure this winter! Explore the remote beauty of Saas-Fee, surrounded by famous 4000s, through off-piste skiing.
Escape the crowded ski runs, enjoy the incredible views and breathe the freedom of an epic off-piste skiing adventure!
The famous ski resort Saas-Fee in Valais provides endless opportunities for off-piste skiing. Our international mountain guide will teach you off-piste skiing safety, techniques, avalanche awareness, and the basics that will make you more confident in navigating winter alpine backcountry.
If you are a physically fit and a good on-piste skier ready for the adventurous feeling of entering uncharted terrain that free riding offers, then join us in this amazin weekend!
This trip is led by Dougal Tavener, international mountain guide.
What’s the plan
Our international mountain guide will teach safety, techniques, avalanche awareness, and instructions on navigating winter alpine backcountry. He will ensure that you have an ultimate adventure whilst ensuring safety during your tour.
You will be surrounded by some of the highest mountains in Europe, which provide endless opportunities for ski touring. Escape the crowded ski runs, wake up to incredible views and breathe the freedom of an epic backcountry skiing adventure!
At the end of this weekend, you should be comfortable with the use of skins, ski crampons and avalanche devices.
Saturday
Meet your guide at Saas-Fee, Busterminal at 09:05. After checking everyone’s equipment, you take the ski lifts and start your off-piste skiing adventure. You will also be introduced to the ski touring gear, which is required for you to have a lot more options. Dinner and night at the charming Pension Waldegg in Saas-Almagell.
Sunday
After an energising breakfast, you spend another long day outside in the snow, practicing the skills acquired the day before. Return to Saas-Fee at the end of the day for you to catch your bus back home.
Technical information and requirements
Good levels of on-piste skiing and physical fitness are required to join this event. You should be a good on-piste skier and be able to ski linked, short radius turns confidently. You might also have done some off-piste skiing but feel more comfortable with a professional guide by your side.
Insurance
It is the participant’s responsibility to get health and accident insurances that cover mountain rescue, including extreme sports. Becoming a Rega patron is highly recommended (CHF 40 per year only for emergency medical assistance from the air).

Equipment rental
If you need to rent some equipment, please make sure you rent it from your local outdoor stores before the start of the tour, such as Transa, Ruedi Bergsport, Baechli, etc.
