Home Tours - Touring Monkeys Adventures Hiking Others Guided Hike & Navigation Course in Flumserberg – Map Reading, Route Planning & Compass Bearing
A combination of hike and navigation course to make the most of a beautiful day in Flumserberg!
In this age of advanced technology, the mountains can be easily explored without relying on navigation skills. The abundance of apps and modern tools available today is truly remarkable, and it would be a missed opportunity not to leverage their benefits.
Nevertheless, it remains crucial (and entertaining!) to possess the ability to navigate in the mountains without solely depending on these tools. While embracing the convenience of technology, it is equally important to cultivate an understanding of traditional navigation techniques that allow us to traverse the mountains confidently. This balanced approach ensures that we are prepared for any situation and can fully appreciate the raw beauty and challenges that the mountains present.
Whether you’re a seasoned hiker seeking to enhance your skills or an adventurer with a passion for exploration, this course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and expertise needed to navigate with confidence in the rugged terrains. You will learn essential map reading and gain compass navigation skills.
This trip is led by Celine Kahn, mountain leader.
What’s the plan?
Let’s meet at 09:30 in the Flumserberg, Tannenboden, where our navigation skills improvement course will start. The day’s agenda will be structured into distinct stages, each encompassing a blend of walking, engaging activities, and skill enhancement.
Stage 1: Unveiling the Navigation Tools
During this initial stage, we will delve into the fundamental aspects of navigation. Master the art of map reading, acquaint yourself with its key features, legend, and efficiently plan your itinerary.
Stage 2: From Reality to Map
After introducing the compass and its functionality, we will then focus on the ability to accurately determine your position on the map. By using the natural elements and features surrounding you, we will demonstrate effective techniques to establish your precise location within the mountainous landscape.
Stage 3: From Map to Reality
Building upon the previous stage, you will use your knowledge of map reading and compass bearing skills to identify prominent summits and other notable landmarks within your vicinity.
Stage 4: Navigating Under Limited Visibility
The final stage will put your skills to the test as we engage in a little game that simulates scenarios with restricted visibility, such as snowy or foggy conditions. Through the strategic use of compass readings bearings, you will refine your capability to navigate through challenging terrains without relying on visual cues.
Join us on this captivating journey to strengthen your navigation skills amidst the beauty of Flumserberg.
