Guided Weekend Hike in Ticino from Bellinzona to Val Verzasca

This wonderful hike in Ticino is a perfect way to burn calories while exploring the beauty and the charm of Ticino – starting from the historic town of Bellinzona and its famous market, staying a night in a mountain hut, and finishing in the famous Val Verzasca!

What’s the plan?

Day 1: Bellinzona – Capanna Albagno

You will meet Otto at Bellinzona train station at 11:15 to start the long and steep hike to the hut. If you want to take an earlier train, feel free to enjoy the famous market in Bellinzona which takes place every Saturday morning and where you can find amazing local products! Well deserved dinner and night at Capanna Albagno, a small and charming mountain hut from where you can see all the lights from the valley at night, and watch a beautiful sunrise in the morning.

Day 2: Capanna Albagno – San Bartolomeo

The second day is more of an alpine hike, as we will walk up to almost 2500m, crossing 3 mountain passes (Bocchetta d’Erbea, Bocchetta della Cima dell’Uomo and Bocchetta di Medee), all of them offering us breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and peaks. We will then go down and stop for a drink and a snack at Capanna Borgna, before going up again, all the way to the peak of the day, Pizzo di Vogorno at 2442m above sea level. After enjoying the views of Lago Maggiore, we will start our descent to Capanna Bardhugee. To shorten the descent, we will take a cable car from Bardhugee to San Bartolomeo. In case of bad conditions or weather preventing us from going to Pizzo di Vogorno, we would need to take a different route and walk down to the valley, in which case the descent would be a bit longer.

Requirements (Hike in Ticino)

T3 hike. To join this hike in Ticino, you need to be a fit hiker and able to hike all day with up to 1600m of elevation gain. You should also not be afraid of heights as some of the trails are narrow and exposed.

Payment terms

Once registered, please pay a 50% deposit within 7 days and the balance by 19 May 2021, one month before the event starts.
