Guided Via Ferrata Tierbergli (T2-T4) with night in Mountain Hut

Because mountains are always packed during the weekend, why not make your weekend start one day earlier to enjoy the outdoors with fewer people and make the most of the evening and night in a mountain hut before the crowds turn up?

Developed in the early 1900s as a way for the military to travel through the rugged Alps; via ferrata have become a favorite activity for those seeking high adventure. Climbing routes can be found throughout the Alps and they offer fantastic views with a physical challenge.

Via Ferrata routes are made safe with modern equipment, techniques, and climbing guides. The route difficulty is expressed using rating K1 – K5, with low numbers easier and higher numbers more difficult. Climbers are attached to a fixed cable that follows the route using lanyards and carabiners. This prevents the chance for a catastrophic fall. The cable and other fixtures, such as iron rungs, pegs, carved steps, and ladders and bridges, provide both footings and handholds. These fabricated holds make it possible to safely climb with your own strength on rocky ridges and faces not normally accessible.

This event will be led by Andreas Schild, Climbing Instructor.

What’s the plan?

We will meet our guide at Steingletscher at 10:00 on Friday. Together we will walk to the start of the via ferrata and then climb to the Tierberglihütte. The first part of the via ferrata is graded K2 and the second part is K3-K4. If some of you are not comfortable with the K3-K4 part, there is a possibility to go back to the hiking trail after the first part and hike to the hut.

After a long day outside climbing, we will spend the evening and the night in the very charming Tierberglihütte at 2795m. The hut is located at the foot of Steingletscher and offers panoramic views with the most beautiful sunsets.

On Saturday morning, we will take our time to enjoy our breakfast and the hut before slowly making our way down to Steingletscher.

Requirements

No prior experience is needed. However, participants should be confident in their physical ability, not have a fear of heights and be willing to challenge themselves.

Must have:

• Backpack (max. 30L)
• Hiking shoes
• Via Ferrata equipment: helmet, harness, and Via Ferrata set (see “Equipment rental”)
• Gloves
• Warm hat
• Sun hat
• Waterproof jacket
• Down jacket
• Fleece
• T-shirt
• Trekking trousers or shorts
• Sleeping bag liner (blankets provided)
• Pillowcase
• Packed lunch for Friday (and Saturday if you don’t want to buy it from the hut)
• Water

Equipment rental

If you are traveling from Zurich by public transport, we recommend you to take the following transportation.

Friday

• Zurich HB 07:05 – 09:56 Steingletscher (via Arth-Goldau and Göschenen)

Saturday

• Steingletscher 14:25 – 17:55 Zurich HB (via Göschenen and Arth-Goldau)

The price for this event is CHF 280.

What does the price include?

Payment terms

Once registered, please pay a 50% deposit within 7 days and the balance by 19 July 2021, one month before the event starts.
