Guided Snowshoeing Hike to Chrüz, St. Antönien
It’s already been snowing a lot in Graubünden and the weather forecast for this weekend is great, so let’s go snowshoeing!
The 2195m high Chrüz, the St. Antönier classic – a promising and famous peak in the Prättigau in the North of the canton of Graubünden – is climbed in all possible conditions in winter. Thanks to its isolated location, the mountain is sometimes referred to as the “Prätigau Rigi”.
From the summit there are three broad ridges that run a few hundred meters below the summit in the mountain flanks. Sankt Antönien lies under the northeast ridge with the pre-summit Chlei Chrüz (2103m). Below the south-west ridge with the pre-summit Alpbüel (2022m) is the village of Pany and below the north-west ridge with the pre-summit Gafäll (2044m) is the scattered settlement of Stelserberg.
This trip is led by Otto van Andel, International Mountain Leader.
What’s the plan?
You meet Otto at St. Antönien, Platz at 09:40. From there we drive up to the parking lot in Aschüel (P21, 1620m) as far as we can.
From Aschüel we follow a part of the winter hiking trail to Pany to the Grossried moor. The Alp Valpun (1882m) can then be reached using any route we choose. The normal route now runs up the north ridge to Chlei Chrüz, 30° are never exceeded. 100m remain over the wide eastern flank of the Chrüz (2196m). Here we enjoy the view and can hardly keep up with counting possible snowshoe hiking destinations. The touring mecca of St Antönien truly has a lot to offer.
With the snowshoes we prefer the NW ridge to come back down. Back through the wide basin to Valpun we then reach Aschüel again.
The hike is adapted to the avalanche danger / subject to change.
