Guided 4-day Hike in the Dolomites

Magnificent 4-day hike in the Dolomites, with varied mountain scenery – from the rock and scree paths winding their way high amongst the Catinaccio summits, to the green alpine grazing of Dona and Duron, to the grass ridge above Alpe di Siusi with a magnificent 360’ panorama…

Details

Wednesday:

Arrival in Bolzano in the evening. Night in a local hotel.

Thursday:

19 km, +1500m, -350m
Bus from Bolzano at 08:15 to San Cipriano (45 minutes). The long ascent up the picturesque Val Ciamin, followed by an introduction to Dolomites rock as we hike narrow paths into the heart of the Catinaccio Group. We twist and turn our way through the towering walls of rock mountains to Passo Principe, then Passo Antermoia, just below the 3000m peak of Catinaccio d’Antermoia. Descend through spectacular scenery to the blue-green glacial Antermoia Lake. Night at Rifugio Antermoia.

Friday:

21km, +950m, -1000m
Views of the famous Dolomites massif and the green alpine meadows of Val Dona and Val Duron. Descend to Val Duron, enjoying views of the Marmolada and the Sasso Lungo massif. Ascent to Rifugio Sandro Pertini and the famous Friedrich-Augustus-Weg. Final steep trek to our overnight hut Tieser-Alpl.

Saturday:

19km, +700m, -1100m
Traverse across to the mighty Sciliar massif. Summit of Monte Pez, the highest point of the Sciliar, then descent to the spectacular balcony path along Monte Cavaccio. After reaching the peak of the Hammarwand, steep descent to Tschafonhütte, where we will spend the night. Here, almost everything you eat is grown or reared by the refuge – their organic vegetable patch is impressive!

Sunday:

12km, +200m, -1000m
More gentle terrain and opportunity to admire the rolling pastures of Fie allo Sciliar and to look up to the massive rock walls we summited the day before! Lunch at a restaurant on the charming Laghetto di Fie. Easy 45-minute stroll downhill, past fruit orchards, to the village of Fie, and 30-minute bus journey back to Bolzano (back in Bolzano around 15:00).

We reserve the right, in case of bad weather or other safety concerns, to vary the exact paths taken. Likewise, there are several refuge options available for this trip and some might change depending on availability.

Requirements

To participate in this 4-day hike in the Dolomites, you need to be a very good hiker. You have to be used to long day hikes with 1000+ meters of elevation. It is necessary to be sure-footed and free from vertigo. There will be short sections on Saturday when it is necessary to use your hands to get up and down rocky steps.

If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend you to take the following:

Wednesday:

• Zurich HB 10:40 – 19:27 Bolzano (via Innsbruck)
• or Zurich HB 12:40 – 19:27 Bolzano (via Innsbruck)
• or Zurich HB 16:40 – 23:10 Zurich HB (via Innsbruck)

Sunday:

• Bolzano 16:34 – 23:20 Zurich HB (via Innsbruck)

If you are traveling by car, you can park near the start of the hike. It will be a 30-minute bus journey from Fie back to the car park.

Pricing

The price of the event is CHF 700.

What does the price include?

• 4 days of guided hike in the Dolomites with an International Mountain Leader
• 1 night of accommodation in a hotel in Bolzano (twin rooms)
• 3 nights of accommodation in mountain huts (dorm)

Payment terms

Once registered, please pay a 50% deposit within 7 days. The balance is due by 22 August May 2021.
