Guided day hike along the Areuse Gorge & up to the stunning cirque of Creux du Van

Hiking in the Alps in November might still be possible but hard to plan ahead as the snow might already be at a low altitude. However, the Jura mountains are absolutely stunning at this time of the year. Join us for a stunning day hike along the beautiful gorge of the Areuse river and to the impressive and unique rocky cirque of Creux du Van!

What’s the plan?

We meet at Boudry train station at 08:20.

We start the hike along the Areuse river and its stunning and tight canyon, with sheer cliffs, stone bridges & narrow walkways.

After more or less 10km along the gorge, we hike up through the forest all the way to one of the most beautiful and imposing landscapes of the limestone Jura chain: the natural reserve of Creux du Van. Lunch break at the top of this unique rocky cirque (1400m wide and 150m deep), sometimes referred to as the “Swiss Grand Canyon”, and its gorgeous views.

After lunch, we stop at Le Soliat restaurant for a coffee before slowly making our way down through meadows and forests and finish our hike in Travers, where we can catch a train.

Requirements

To join this event, you need to be a fit hiker. It is a long hike with over 1000m elevation gain.

How to get there?

If you are traveling from Zurich by public transport, we recommend you to take the following:

– Zürich HB 06:04 – 08:20 Boudry, gare (via Biel & Neuchatel)
– Travers 16:21 – 18:56 Zürich HB (via Neuchatel & Biel) – depending on what time we finish
