Guided weekend hike on the Jura Crest Trail and around Joux Lake with night by the lake
Beginning of June is still early for high altitude, so why not spend a weekend on the oldest long-distance hike in Switzerland, the Jura Crest Trail, overlooking the Alps?
Two days hiking through beautiful forests and meadows, encountering all kind of flora (and fauna if we’re lucky), ascending the famous Dent de Vaulion overlooking 8 lakes and the highest Swiss Jura peak Mont Tendre to admire the Alps and the Mont Blanc in the background…
One night in a charming guest house in Vallorbe to get to know each other and get ready for the weekend, then one night in a tent by the Joux Lake after an apero on a boat on the water and a dinner around the campfire on the beach.
How does that sound?
This trip is led by Celine Kahn, mountain leader.
What’s the plan?
Meet in Vallorbe in the evening for the briefing and spend the night at Auberge Pour Tous.
After an early and energising breakfast, we start our 2-day hike on the Jura Crest Trail. We leave the town of Vallorbe and start a long and beautiful climb through the forest until we reach the ridge and follow it, still mainly through the forest, all the way to the unique Dent de Vaulion at 1483m, offering breathtaking 360 panoramic views of eight different lakes, and the Alps with the Mont Blanc in the background! After enjoying the views, we start hiking down to Joux Lake, the largest Swiss lake above 1000m. After walking around the lake for a bit, we settle at a campsite by the water. We will enjoy an apero on small boats on the lake and will then make a campfire for our dinner before going to bed. Night in tents.
Technical info: 19km – 800m ascent – 550m descent – 6h walking
After a morning swim in the lake for the brave ones and a breakfast on the beach, we will put away our camp and start another beautiful day on the trails. We will again start with some uphill, through forests and meadows, all the way to the summit of the Mont Tendre at 1679m, the highest point of the Swiss Jura. From there the 360 views are also breathtaking, which gives us another chance of admiring some of the stunning lakes below us and the Alps. The gentle downhill to the Marchairuz pass crosses more meadows and forests. In the afternoon we reach the Marchairuz pass, from where we can catch one more direct view of Mont Blanc between the trees, and our bus to return home.
Technical info: 15km – 950m ascent – 500m descent – 5h walking
