Tour de L’Argentine – Weekend hike with night in hammocks under the stars

Meadowland, fissured mountains, magnificent views, and Alpine pastures: this beautiful hike circles the Arête de L’Argentine in the canton of Vaud. To make the most of our weekend outdoors, we’ll spend the night in hammocks under the stars, with breathtaking mountains surrounding us!

This trip is led by Celine Kahn.

What’s the plan (Tour de L’Argentine)

Day 1: Pont de Nant – Solalex

We meet at Bex train station at 10:50. From there, we get a taxi to Pont de Nant, where there is a possibility to buy some local cheese and sausages from the farm for your picnic. We then start with a long and beautiful climb through the forest before reaching the hut Le Richard and discovering the stunning mountains all around us. Once we’ve passed La Varre, another alpine hut, we can enjoy our picnic on the beautiful pastures before hiking up to Col des Essets, a mountain pass at 2030m where we might see a herd of chamois. After a short descent, we go up again to the Poreyrette pass and end the day with a hike down on the rocky trail along the stream towards Solalex, at the foot of the Diablerets massif and the impressive Miroir d’Argentine.
We will find a quiet place on the plateau, set up camp for the night, have a warm dinner outside, and spend the night in our hammocks.
In case of rain, we can install a big tarp and put all our mats underneath to stay dry.

Technical information: 11km, 900m +, 750m –

Day 2: Solalex – Pont de Nant

After an energizing breakfast, we tidy our camp and start the day with a long uphill through the forest, until we arrive above the tree line and continue our hike on a balcony trail with stunning views of the famous Dents du Midi. On our way down to Pont de Nant, we can stop at Le Richard and order a nice coffee and pie. Depending on the time, weather, and how we feel, we can either take a taxi back to Bex or walk down from Pont de Nant.

Technical information: 11.5km, 700m +, 850m –
