Ski touring Bernese Oberland

What’s the plan?

Meet your guide at Grindelwald Terminal train station at 09:30 on Saturday. Once everyone is equipped, we take the new Eiger Express cable car to Eigergletscher, followed by the famous Jungfraubahn to Jungfraujoch at 3463 meters above sea level. From this saddle connecting the Jungfrau and the Mönch starts this wonderful 2-day ski tour. We ski to Finsteraarhornhütte via the Grünhornlücke. Evening and night at Finsteraarhornhütte. After 2 days long days in the snow, return to Grindelwald having some fun off-piste, so you can catch your train back home on Sunday afternoon.

Technical information and requirements

Good levels of skiing experience and physical fitness are required to ski in all snow conditions and skin up at a good pace.

Fitness level

-Ascent: up to 800 meters per day
-Duration: 5 to 8 hours of exercise per day
-Backpack with mountaineering equipment

Technical level

Varied slopes (up to 35º), a few technical sections.

You need to be a very good off-piste skier and to have some ski touring knowledge (i.e. how to use skins, ski crampons, crampons, avalanche devices, etc.). If you are a good off-piste skier but would like to get familiar with ski touring and mountaineering equipment before joining this event, feel free to join our Introduction to ski touring weekend on 11 – 12 December 2021.

It is the participant’s responsibility to get health and accident insurances that cover mountain rescue, including extreme sports. Becoming a Rega patron is highly recommended (CHF 40 per year only for emergency medical assistance from the air).
