Guided 3-day hike for beginners in Val de Bagnes sleeping in mountain hut

You love nature and the idea of hiking but you’re not confident enough to join a hut-to-hut trip, fearing that you might be the least experienced or the least fit? You’d like to meet other people who want to start hiking without being already hiking freaks who would leave you behind? Then this event is definitely something for you!

A stunning and easy 3-day tour, staying 2 nights in the most amazing high-altitude hut by a beautiful mountain lake! Long days and short distances, just what we need to be tired at the end of the day and yet to allow enough time to enjoy nature, observe flowers, fauna, rocks…

This trip is led by Celine Kahn, mountain leader.

Hike for Beginners

What’s the plan?

Day 1: Lourtier – Cabane de Louvie

We meet at 11:15 at Lourtier, Village and get a shuttle to Fionnay. Once we’ve checked everyone’s equipment, we start our hike at a slow pace, making our way up to Cabane de Louvie, where we will spend the next two nights. This beautiful alpine hut is located in a gorgeous landscape, by a turquoise mountain lake, surrounded by 3000m+ mountains and with the impressive Grand Combin massif in the background. Dinner and night at Cabane de Louvie.

Technical information: 4km – 750m ascent – walking duration 2.5 hours

Day 2: Hike around Cabane de Louvie

After an energizing breakfast, we will head off and make our way to Col du Bec d’Aigle, a pass located at 2’566m. We will then carry on a beautiful balcony trail and eventually make our way down to the lake. The duration of the tour will be determined on the day, depending on the motivation of the group. In the afternoon we can also enjoy the terrace of the hut and why not go for a swim in the stunning mountain lake! Dinner and night at Cabane de Louvie.

Technical information: 6km – 500m ascent – 500m descent – walking duration 3 hours

Day 3: Cabane de Louvie – Le Chable

Last but not least… Sunday is slightly longer than the previous two days, but by then you will surely be used to hiking and won’t even notice the difference! We start the day with the ascent to Col Termin, the highest pass of the weekend at 2648m, before starting a long a really nice balcony trail all the way to Les Ruinettes above Verbier. From there we take the cable car down to Le Chable to avoid a very long and steep descent. End of the tour in Le Chable where we can have a drink before heading back home.

Technical information: 10km – 600m ascent – 700m descent – walking duration 4.5 hours

No previous hiking experience needed. An intermediate fitness level is enough as we will adapt to the group and have long days to cover relatively short distances. This event is more about enjoying nature and discovering a new activity than performance.

Please note that you will be able to have a shower on Saturday evening.

It is the participant’s responsibility to get health and accident insurances that cover mountain rescue, including extreme sports. Becoming a Rega patron is highly recommended (CHF 40 per year only for emergency medical assistance from the air).
