Guided weekend hike in the Fribourg Prealps, with night in a hut

Immerse yourself into the legends of the Schwarzsee with this 2-day hike in the gorgeous Fribourg Prealps , walking from valley to valley and sleeping in a mountain hut.

This trip is led by Celine Kahn, mountain leader.

What’s the plan?

Day 1: Riggisalp – Fochsenflue – St Antoni Brecca

We meet at Schwarzsee at 10:00. From there, we take the chairlift to Riggisalp to keep as much energy as possible for the summit later in the day!

We start the weekend with a visit to Alphütte Riggisalp, a charming alpine hut that makes local cheese all summer. Possibility to see the cheese making process and buy cheese (Gruyère, Vacherin Fribourgeois and Mutschli).

Once we’re done at the hut, we start our hike through beautiful pastures in the Euschel valley and make our way up to the Fochsenflue at nearly 2’000m, which offers a stunning 360° panorama of the Schwarzsee on one side, the Gastlosen on the other side and the Jura range in the background. From there, we make our way down to the charming hut Brecca in the Brecca gorge, where we have dinner and spend the night.

Technical information: 14km – 900m ascent – 800m descent

Day 2: St Antoni Brecca – Col du Chamois – Schwarzsee

After an energising breakfast at Brecca hut, we start the day with a long and gentle climb on a beautiful balcony trail above the Brecca gorge, all the way to Col du Chamois, a pass located at nearly 1’900m. There we are, in another valley, slowly making our way back down to the mystical Schwarzsee where we end our weekend. If the weather is nice we can wrap up these beautiful two days with a swim in the lake!

Technical information: 12km – 600m ascent – 1000m descent

To join this event, you need to be a fit hiker.

Insurance

It is the participant’s responsibility to get health and accident insurances that cover mountain rescue, including extreme sports. Becoming a Rega patron is highly recommended (CHF 40 per year only for emergency medical assistance from the air).

If you are traveling from Zurich by public transport, we recommend you to take the following:

-Zurich HB 07:32 – 09:53 Schwarzsee, Gypsera (via Fribourg)
-Schwarzsee, Gypsera 16:04 – 18:28 Zurich HB (via Fribourg) – depending on the time the event finishes
